Yesterday I got burned and went to the beach, but oddly, they happened independently of one another.

My sister is done her exams, and our friend Haley is home for the holidays, so I FINALLY had people to go adventuring with on a weekday! Or, as we like to call it, “ah-venturing.”
My friend Sarah joined me for dinner the other night, and we chose LA Grill and Bistro. Why? Because it had my initials in the title, and that seemed like reason enough.
There are few Christmas traditions I hold more dearly than gingerbread house projects with my friend Megan. If we’re in the same city for the holidays, we always get together and construct something grand.
We bake. We mix icing. We purchase far too many bags of assorted red and green candies. We sing and dance to Christmas music – Mariah Carey’s holiday album being our favourite – and we drink eggnog. Once we’re finished, we wrap ourselves in blankets and watch a Christmas movie on the couch, preferably with the fireplace blazing.
Some call it nerdy, we prefer “wholesome.”
During the last nine years I haven’t been wealthy, but I’ve been spoiled. Spoiled by people who’ve taken me in, fed me, loaned me bikes, helped me find jobs, given me directions, and supported me emotionally. If I could build a monument to these friends I would, but since I currently lack the resources, I’ll just have to use my words.
Yesterday I ate my 83rd meal, and did so in front of an OMNI camera. I’ve done this a couple of times now, and finally turned my camera on them. During the experience, I started thinking about just how much I’ve learned over the past 3 months. For instance:
Where should two girls go when they’re so starving they can barely remember each other’s names? A Japanese Izakaya restaurant, that’s where. Like Guu, remember? It’s pretty much Japanese tapas, and not only do you get to try many different things, but they’re brought to your table QUICKLY. Keyword, right there.
Tan Tan. Or Dan Dan. Whatever you call them, these noodles might be my new favourite thing. And my new favourite thing only cost FOUR BUCKS at Parker Place!
